Grantee Spotlight: Supporting Public Education in Muncie
Over the past decade, Ball Brothers Foundation has dramatically increased its support for public schools in the heart of Muncie’s Central City: Muncie Community Schools and Burris Laboratory School.
High School Broadcasting Students Travel State
In late May, Indiana’s Secretary of Education, Dr. Katie Jenner, joined Ball Brothers Foundation staff on a day-long visit to schools across Delaware County. While visiting Burris Laboratory School, Dr. Jenner met students in Mr. Rob Jones’ emerging media class. They shared their love for creating “hype videos,” and Dr. Jenner challenged the students to produce a back to school video that could be shared with students and educators from across the state.

School Counseling and Outdoor Learning Programs Awarded Funding as Part of $5 Million in Grants Awarded this Fall
Ball Brothers Foundation approved over $5 million in funding for 39 projects during its second round of grantmaking in 2022. The grants included funding to support efforts that further bolster school counseling programs and expand outdoor learning throughout schools in the heart of Muncie.
Burris’ Stefanie Onieal named recipient of Ball Brothers Foundation’s Excellence in Teaching Award
Stefanie Onieal is not a teacher, she says. She’s a researcher.
“I'm a researcher of my students. I am researching what they know, what they can do, and I'm trying to take them to the next place, to where they need to go,” said Onieal, a second-grade teacher at Burris Laboratory School in Muncie.
BBF Announces Funding Opportunities for Local School Districts
Ball Brothers Foundation has invited eight school districts in Delaware County to apply for special funding in 2018 to make school-wide and district-wide improvements and innovations. The funding invitation is an expansion of grants made over the past several years to Muncie Community Schools and Burris Laboratory School.
City’s Two K-12 Public School Systems to benefit from Ball Brothers Foundation grants
Students attending Muncie Community Schools (MCS) and Burris Laboratory School will benefit this year from several curriculum additions supported by two Ball Brothers Foundation grants. Of the more than $3 million distributed by the foundation in its first grant-making cycle of 2017, the local schools shared $580,000—MCS receiving $305,000 and Burris, $275,000—to introduce and strengthen innovative and digitally rich programming.
Muncie Central, Burris Laboratory School Receive Grants to Support Students, Faculty
High school students and faculty at Muncie Central and Burris Laboratory School will benefit from a grant to each institution. The funding is directed at new classroom equipment, expanded course selections, extracurricular activities, and minor facility upgrades through the support of Ball Brothers Foundation grants awarded during the Foundation’s first grantmaking cycle of 2015.
Grants Strengthen Emens Auditorium, Muncie Central, Burris
Ball Brothers Foundation awarded 40 grants totaling over $4 million during its first grantmaking cycle of the year. The grants were approved at the Foundation’s May board meeting.
BBF Selects 2015 Excellence In Teaching Award Winner
Burris kindergarten teacher Renee Huffman has earned Ball Brothers Foundation’s 2015 Excellence in Teaching Award, an honor that includes a $15,000 grant to her school.
