Building a More Vibrant Muncie: Capital Projects Advancing Quality of Place
From trailheads and childcare centers to creative hubs and performing arts venues, construction crews are hard at work across Muncie this summer on a range of capital projects aimed at enhancing quality of place. Together, these projects are reshaping key spaces across Muncie—each one contributing to a more connected, creative, and livable city.
BBF’s staff spent a recent afternoon stopping by several of these project sites and seeing firsthand the exciting progress and renewed energy they’re bringing to our community. Ball Brothers Foundation is proud to support these initiatives—both through funding and through partnerships that help bring bold ideas to life.
Madjax
Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and a Fresh New Look
BBF is a long-time supporter of Madjax, Muncie’s home for makers, entrepreneurs, and creative thinkers. Located in a former industrial facility downtown, Madjax offers everything from youth STEM programming to artist studios and business co-working space. As part of a multi-phase revitalization effort, BBF’s most recent grant is also helping to fund exterior painting that is breathing new life into the building’s façade—adding visual appeal and signaling Madjax’s role as a place of innovation and community engagement.
United Day Care
Expanding Access for Muncie’s Youngest Learners
Construction is moving forward on a major expansion at United Day Care Center, where new infant and toddler classrooms are being added to meet rising demand for high-quality early childhood education. The project will significantly increase the number of local families who have access to care—especially care for children ages 0–3, a critical gap in our community. BBF awarded a grant late last year to help support the buildout.
Kitselman Trailhead
Connecting People and Places
At the eastern edge of Muncie, work is underway on the final phase of the Kitselman Trailhead, part of the Cardinal Greenway system. When completed, this gateway will provide improved access to trails, greenspace, and the White River, while showcasing public art. BBF is among many partners supporting this multi-decade project.
The Village
A New Chapter for a Historic District
In the heart of Muncie’s Village district, construction is now underway on a new Performing Arts Center and boutique hotel—a long-envisioned project that will bring fresh energy and foot traffic to the area. Located adjacent to Ball State’s campus, the project is designed to serve students, local residents, and visitors alike, helping to re-establish The Village as a vibrant destination. BBF is proud to support the construction of the Performing Arts Center, which is part of Ball State University’s larger revitalization strategy in The Village.
Stay tuned for an upcoming Q&A with Ball State President Geoffrey Mearns about the long-term vision behind this transformational development.
As these projects move forward, they represent more than bricks and mortar—they are bold investments in people, creativity, and place. BBF is proud to play a role in helping to shape the physical spaces that will define our community in the years ahead.
