100+ Community Members Attend Waterways Film Tour and Premiere
Over 100 community members from across East Central Indiana joined Ball Brothers Foundation, Indiana Humanities, and The Nature Conservancy for a screening of documentaries on December 6, 2022 at Muncie Civic Theatre.
The evening featured the premiere of The Nature Conservancy’s new mini-documentary about the White River. The mini-documentary was produced by Seth Harden (TNC) with videography and direction by lifelong Hoosier and filmmaker, Ben Massie of Flatland Films. The stunning imagery in the mini-documentary is paired with a rich narrative that tells the story of the White River and hopes for the river’s future.

Hellbender in the Blue
Indiana Humanities supported the creation of these two films as part of a multi-year environmental project that features stories told by Hoosiers from across the state, highlighting diverse relationships with water. A multi-city tour of the Waterways Film Series has been traveling the state this year, with Muncie as one of the tour’s final stops in 2022. The full set of Indiana Humanities Waterways Films will be available for streaming on Indiana Humanities’ YouTube channel later this week.
Grants from Ball Brothers Foundation supported the December 6th film screening and helped to fund the production of The Nature Conservancy's mini-documentary about the White River. This is part of Ball Brothers Foundation's "Project Blueways," special funding that is designed to:
Increase access to-and appreciation of-local waterways
Improve soil and water quality and reduce pollution
Support collaborative watershed planning efforts
Promote East Central Indiana as a regional/state destination for canoeing, fishing, wildlife viewing, and agritourism
