The Fisher Governance Award recognizes the efforts of a board member serving a nonprofit organization in Delaware County. John W. and Janice B. Fisher, the award’s namesakes, were compassionate philanthropists who strongly believed in the importance of excellent leadership and governance.

Two members of BBF’s board shared remarks at the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Legacy Gala on Saturday, August 24. BBF’s Chairman & CEO Jim Fisher and board member Stephanie Duckmann shared family perspectives.

On August 1, 2019, Ivy Tech held a ribbon cutting to celebrate renovations to the “Fisher Building”—now renamed the “John & Janice Fisher Campus” in downtown Muncie. Printed below is a copy of remarks prepared for the occasion by Jud Fisher, Ball Brothers Foundation’s president & chief operating officer.

Since approximately 1899, Ball family members have supported higher education in East Central Indiana. In 1917, family members were the successful bidders for a defunct teachers’ college. In 1918, the Ball family deeded land, buildings, and around $1.4 million to the state of Indiana that eventually became what we now know as Ball State University. The Ball family has remained by the university’s side ever since.

It is an honor to be here today to represent my family for this historic occasion. As the president of the Ball Brothers Foundation and the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, this is a particularly meaningful day.
