History

The Ball Brothers Foundation (BBF) was established in November 1926 "to promote religious, educational or charitable purposes, or all of these, within the state of Indiana."

The five Ball brothers moved from New York to Indiana in the 1880s to relocate their glass manufacturing business.William H., Frank C., Edmund B., George A., and Lucius L. Ball, founded what is now Ball Corporation, prospered in business, married into Indiana families, and began engaging in a variety of community activities.

The Foundation, an independent, private, family philanthropic organization, is an outgrowth of the five brothers' business successes, as well as the successes of their descendents. The family's enterprises and dedicated efforts to improve the quality of life within Indiana form the basis of the Foundation's motto, "Building community since 1926."

The Foundation's primary focus is Muncie and East Central Indiana. The Foundation has been a philanthropic leader, serving as initiator, convener, and catalyst among donors and nonprofit organizations. Within Muncie, the Foundation seeks to forge active partnerships with effective nonprofit agencies by providing consultation and financial support to promote their success.
